Howenstine High Magnet School's

Counseling Department

The professional school counselors at Howenstine High Magnet School recognize that each student has unique interests, abilities and goals that will lead to many future opportunities.  Collaborating with students, parents, the educational staff and the community, the professional school counselors work to ensure that all students develop an academic and career plan that reflects relevant coursework and experiences appropriate for the student.  All students are taught skills to be successful academically, socially, emotionally and in their future careers.

The Career Center

Howenstine's Career Center is an important post-secondary exploration resource center. Information on educational and occupational choices is offered through Arizona Career Information System (AzCIS) available on the internet. This provides students an opportunity to discover individual interests, to research a variety of career fields as well as to become familiar with hundreds of colleges and universities.

Materials in the Career Center include college view books, college reference guides, testing information, scholarship books, college preview books, military opportunity information, career exploration materials, and many other post-high school planning resources.

The Career Center also has information on JTED (Joint Technological Education District) in conjunction with TUSD’s CTE (Career and Technological Education) that will provide students with community and school based resources to enhance career skills and employability options. As a result of JTED funded CTE programs in TUSD, students will be prepared for a variety of post-secondary experiences such business, technical, higher education as well as professional careers.

The Career Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Students are encouraged to come in during lunch, after school, open periods, and any other teacher-approved time. Parents are invited to visit the Career Center (room 2) during school hours or by appointment.

If interested or for more information please contact Mrs. Tori Bacal at victoria.bacal@tusd1.org or call the Career Center at 232-7351.
