WELCOME
Dear Parents,
Thank you for choosing Howenstine for your child’s academic and social growth. On behalf of the Howenstine community we welcome you to the 2011-2012 school year. We hope you have had an opportunity to vacation, or enjoy some of the hot summer weather we have had.
We are again excited about the wonderful learning opportunities that will take place this year with our continued emphasis on academics and best teaching practices, service learning, green technologies and sustainability with technology integration in architectural design and computer aided drafting. Since we are a small learning community, we have the opportunity to work closely with each student. This year we will support student learning and AIMS by integrating technology, using web-based programs and providing tutoring.
We will continue to focus on our professional learning community to support and meet the needs of each student. In addition, we have changed our bell schedule. Students will have a choice of schedule options. Each schedule will provide time for teachers to embed service learning as well as instructional interventions for students needing additional support.
Students will have the opportunity to play sports at their home high school. For example, if your neighborhood school is Tucson High or Rincon you may attend Howenstine and play sports at your neighborhood school. This means students can attend school in a smaller, safe environment and still participate in sports. We are excited about this opportunity for our students and will encourage students to take advantage of this option as well as support transportation to practice. If you are interested in a fall sport, please call our office manager so that we can connect students with the appropriate athletic director.
We look forward to seeing all of our returning students and we are excited to meet all of our new Howenstine Hawks. With our unique size and dedicated staff, we have a great opportunity to continue building a great school community and individual success for each student. Please stop by the school or call us at 232-7300 if you have questions, or if you would like to schedule a time to meet. Our school's website is www.HowenstineHawks.com. We have an open door policy and are committed to being accessible for parents and students.
Let’s have an outstanding year!
Sincerely,
Maritza Núñez, Principal
